First of all, you poem brought back awesome memories from when I went to college in the midwest, and during big thunderstorms, these ginormous earthworms would all be out on the sidewalks. I did not enjoy stepping on them, but did love to pick them up and look at them. They were so amazing

We do have an abundant worm population out here - I've been digging them up all over my garden, and we had a nature hike last week with some Kindergartners after a drizzly morning and had fun making our way through the "worm obstacle course" on the sidewalk - the kids were too cute, and managed to not squash the worms (mostly...) ^_
