I was starting to think I'd made a terrible mistake in deciding to overwinter the
yellow-bellied slider in my backyard pond - I thought she'd be happier there than in a dinky tank in my basement, but if I'd known we were going to have one of the coldest, longest winters in decades I might have reconsidered. Still, my pond pump kept running even

I'd have been a little worried this winter, too. Glad it made it through.

Nature is amazing - just about all the plants survived outside, too - the roses froze back to the ground, but everything is sprouting up again like crazy.

I'm glad she's okay! I live in an eternal state of awe and suspicion regarding turtles; they are ridiculously tough. Frozen solid! Wow. We should probably be grateful they're more interested in munching on plant-life than us. Turtle-pocalypse. More to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles than anyone guessed.

Such a pretty turtle girl she is <3 She hasn't completely forgiven me yet, but has graciously accepted my offerings of worms and turtle pellets. And yah, don't mess with the awesome sekrit turtle powers. I've seen them swimming around under the ice at the park, happy as clams, no doubt planning for their eventual take over of the universe.

Oh, well, at least she's the gracious sort. You wouldn't want a vindictive turtle living among your greenery. Lying in wait. Watching.
...You're absolutely sure she isn't just biding her time and scoping out the house for security flaws while she contentedly munches her worms and turtle pellets, right?

On a side note, rewatching a certain film: it seems the Galadi-mice play Skinchanger Chess at night. This may or may not resemble Wizards' Chess. I am not sure. Also, I wonder if the G-mice and the Bees of Unusual Size might communicate in some way. ;D

Chess mice, but of course! Gotta stay sharp on strategy :D In the normal course of things, I wouldn't expect bees and mice to talk much, since the bees tend to be daytime, and the mousies night, but perhaps they meet at dawn and twilight for the changing of the guard...

Or at least they leave notes for each other? Uh. Hmm. Yeah, maybe crepuscular meetups would be better. XD
