Waiting for her last breath (warning this is an account of a deathbed observation)

Todd's mom was diagnosed with cancer 10 days ago. Four days ago she met with her oncologist to schedule chemo. We brought her to the ER last night - it wasn't just dehydration, her body had begun its last fight. Today the cancer broke through the wall of her intestines and sent her body into sepsis. So sorry to hear this. As someone who sat by her own mother's bed as she took her last breath, I can relate in so many ways. You are never prepared and never ready. It was the hardest thing I've ever done and I still struggle EVERY day with her loss and it's been 3 years.

I lived with my grandparents for 8 years. About 10 years ago I got that same call about my grandmother. Of all my relatives, she was my favorite and I was hers. She had been on oxygen for a couple of years and the end game had arrived. I held her hand as she drew her last breath surrounded by her family. But it was the 8 years and many visits I spoke to her about as her spirit left this earthly plane.
