Rejected! (But that's still a good thing.)

Alas, the New Yorker rejected a batch of my cartoons today.

But I'm not upset. It took me years to work up the courage to submit any cartoons to them in the first place. At least I sent them out. And now I'm almost ready to send out batch # 2. All I need is a few minutes with a photocopier.

Just keeping sending them. A friend of mine from middle school (check out http://www.cartoonbank.com/search_results_category.asp?sitetype=1§ion=prints&keyword=Robert+Leighton&advanced=0&x=10&y=11) wanted to be a New Yorker cartoonist since he was 12, and now, at 48, he's sold a couple of dozen. He says he just keeps sending in submissions every week or so and knows that some will be picked up.

Um, he didn't start submitting them when he was 12, did submit for a couple of years before he started to sell.

Coolness. I've seen some of those cartoons.

I'm cool on taking a few years to break in. It'd probably go faster if I weren't such a slow artist. If only I had more time for drawing...
