- What sort of profession in the wizarding world would you choose and why?
Ideally I'd want to be a teacher at Hogwarts, specifically history. I know it's not really a 'magical' class, but it would still be important - you need to know where you came from. I think that the satisfaction of showing students what others had achieved would be tremendous. Imagine this - a muggleborn who's only just discovered who and what they are, feeling lost and freakish, showing up in a Magical History class and learning about the wild and wonderful things that others in their situation have achieved. For a teacher who really liked children it would be fantastic to see. Plus I love stories and history is just full of stories. What better way to spend your day then by telling stories?
- If you could teach one class at Hogwarts, what would it be and why?
Well, as you can see from my previous answer, it would be Magical history. People don't usually make it into the history books without doing something interesting, and learing and sharing about those interesting events would be a real high point of any teaching career I think. History is more than just dates and names. When the students come in from the more 'exciting' classes like Defence against the Dark Arts, expecting to be bored with History, I would delight in sharing with them stories and adventures that not only entertain but educate as I help them realise why all their subjects are vital, not just the fun ones. Plus, as I said before, what could be better than telling stories all day (that's why I'm currently studying to be a history teacher in reality - I'm a story teller!)?
- This year, The TriWizard Tournament is being held once again and you're of age. Do you put your name in the Goblet? Why or why not?
No I don't think that I would. I'd be more than willing to help out, but I think I'd rather be on the sidelines, reporting it all for the school newspaper or giving a student's impression for a column in the Daily Prophet. Taking part you'd miss out on so many of the different things that were going on. Watching from the sidelines you'd miss out on the glory, but you'd get to see the whole adventure.
- If you could choose your animagus form, what would it be and why?
I think I'd choose a cat. Preferably a small, cute, cuddly cat. I'd have an excuse to sleep whereever I wanted (Oh look - a sunbeam! I must curl up right now and take a nap!) but most people like cats and enjoy having them around. So I'd be able to find out all manner of secrets. And for those people that didn't like cats, well I'd be fast able to get out of there, and I'd have claws and teeth to fight if needs be. Besides, cats are the only creature I know of that can give a withering glare, and I'd hate to miss out on that skill!
- What HP character do you identify with most and why?
I think Ginny, because I'm the youngest, with only brothers. They are such strong personalities that it's easy to feel in the shadows. But I have my own personality that comes out if you take the time to get to know me. Plus I can totally relate to the whole 'having a crush on somebody for years and not being able to do anything about it'. Ginny's stronger than she looks, and I'd like to think I am as well. I'm probably not, but it's an aspiration.
Oh, and we both have freckles!!
- What would you see if you looked into the Mirror of Erised?
My Grandfather. I'd like to be able to thank him for a walk he took me on when I was 8. He told me about his life, and he was just full of thanks for everything, and it affected me tremendously. It would be nice to see him again, with a straight back and a smile on his face, not frail and curled up in a hospital bed, which was how he was the last time I saw him before he died.
- If you won a million dollars, how would you spend it?
The usual - I'd pay off the family's debts. Then I'd set up trust funds for nieces and nephews. And then I'd travel. As much as I could, and with as many people as I could. I'd love to see the joy on somebody's face when you hand them a rould the world air fare and say "Come on, let's go to the other side of the planet". That would be a buzz!
- What was your ideal job as a kid? Has that changed? What is your ideal job now?
As a kid I wanted to be a writer or a journalist. It's changed a little. I still really enjoy writing and hope to get published one day. But I don't think I could cut it as a successful journo. Maybe if I could be like Clark Kent, and only talk about nice stories, then it would be ok. But I'm not 'hard hitting' enough.
If you've read this far it shouldn't be hard to tell that at the moment my dream job is a history teacher. Because above all it's storytelling. And I want to be, and have always wanted to be, a storyteller.
- If you were able to invent one spell, potion, or charm, what would it do, what would you use it for or how would you use it, and what would you call it?
Commentarius Exactus A spell that is cast on an object that would show what had happened in front of that object. For example, a vase that has the spell cast on it would be able to project, movie-like, events that had happened in the room the vase lived it. Originally created for historians it would also come in handy in court cases. "Who killed my client's husband? Let's ask the pot plant shall we?" The name means Accurate Record
- If you were to face a boggart, what would it turn into? And what does it turn into when you throw the counter-spell, Riddikulus?
I think it would probably turn into a dark cloud, that made it impossible to see anything. When I cast the counter-spell the darkness would be full of fireworks, which always make me giggle and clap, no matter how old or supposedly mature I get.
- What do you look for in a friend?
A pulse! No, really, what I look for is the willingness to smile. It's hard to be friends with a person who insists on being miserable all the time, although I spend a lot of time trying to cheer my friends up. A friend who is willing to be silly and laugh and get excited about stuff is brilliant.
- What trait most annoys you about other people?
I'm fairly straight forward. If I say something I generally mean it. I don't speak in code, so there's no need to 'read between the lines'. When people tell me that they know what I 'really' mean, it annoys me. When what I say isn't accepted, when people assume they know better than me what I mean, that really drives me mad. I don't play mind games with people and I hate it when people play them with me.
- What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities?
I'm a decent story teller, I am generally optomistic, I am stubborn (and that will be listed as a bad quality too!), I love giving my friends gifts, and while I'm committed to certain view points I try hard to accept others' points of view as well.
- What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities?
I can be a bit preachy and defensive about things that are important to me, I am stubborn (also a good point!), I don't cope well with arguements, I procrastinate, and I'm unfit.
- Define in your own words the following key traits:
- Courage: Knowing what needs to be done and doing it anyway.
- Loyalty: Standing by somebody just because they're your friend and they need you, no questions asked. (the original answer I wanted to give was 'standing by somebody even when they're wearing an ugly shirt'!)
- Intelligence: Knowing enough to know that you're never going to know everything.
- Ambition: The drive to be happy with yourself and your life.
