If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be? I would make everyone more tolerant. I know that's a "why can't we all just get along and sing happy songs?" sort of answer, but it's true. I can understand disliking people for many different reasons, but that doesn't mean you can't be civil. The Golden Rule isn't just for kindergarteners.

What makes a person respectable? Giving respect. If someone's snarky to me, I'm going to be snarky right back because I'm upset. If someone respects me, even by doing something as simple as holding open the door for me (even thought I'm perfectly capable of opening the door myself), it makes me want to respect them.

What do you look for in a friend? Shared interests, especially HP. General kindness. Friendliness, of course. Honesty helps, though I have to know someone for a while before I can really be honest.

What are your hobbies? Reading, especially HP and other fantasy. Alice in Wonderland is my favorite book. I also like to write, but I don't do it nearly as much as I like. I spend a lot of time studying because I like learning. I'm in college studying for a degree in Secondary Education and English, so I hope to spend the rest of my life doing what I love. I used to play piano and flute. I also spend a lot of time on the Internet; I write some HTML and CSS and dabble in making graphics.

Have or would you give time and money to a charity? I like volunteering my spare time when I can. I can only let myself spend so much time at my computer. I'm less likely to give money, but I do ocassionally.

What is the one thing you would most like to accomplish? To make the world a little better while I'm in it. Whether it's helping students learn to use English properly (it's a complicated language!) or just being a good wife and mother someday, I just don't want to have wasted the life God has given me.

Who is your role model? I don't really have one. I try to imitate the characteristics I like in a lot of people. My mom is so giving and cool sometimes. My friend and roommate lives her faith in such an honest and open way. My ex can lighten up situations with his sense of humor. J.K. Rowling has made reading books (very thick books!) cool again -- not that reading is ever bad!

What trait most annoys you about other people? It's a tie between misuse of language and intentionally being stupid. My inner editor is always on; I correct people's speech, spelling, and grammar without realizing it. I'm not mean about it at all, though. As for being stupid... I like to have fun. I'm a little uptight sometimes, but I can be loose when I want to be. There are times when fooling around just gets... well, dumb, and then I get exasperated.

What do you want to do for a living? Like I said, I'm studying Secondary Education and English. I want to be a high school English teacher. I intend to write forever, but I'd like to be published someday.

If your friend was attacked (by a person, animal, or (in the magic world) beast), what would you do? Honestly, I'd panic first. Then I'd try to help or get help, whether that means getting him or her away, getting the attacker away, or just calling 911.

Would you ever use an Unforgivable Curse for any reason? No. I don't even believe in Muggle capital punishment. I think torturing and killing people are literally evil, and taking over someone's will is just... wrong. There's very, very little gray area there.

What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities? My intelligence (for writing and teaching), my honesty (I don't lie), my caring nature (I like being nice and doing things for people), my patience, and my awesome organization skills. I'm so neat it scares me sometimes.

What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities? I have so much trouble making decisions, I sometimes have to resort to choosing whatever comes first alphabetically. I call it "invoking the Alphabet Rule." I hate being wrong or losing, though sometimes I can get past that. I'm very meticulous, which comes from my talents for writing and organization. I can get conceited sometimes. I'm also kind of overly emotional; I get upset somewhat easily.

Define in your own words the following key traits:
Courage: the strength to do what you have to do, even when it seems to hard to bear.
Loyalty: commitment to a cause or person, even in the face of great criticism, opposition, or hardship; it can be lost and regained.
Intelligence: strength of mind; possession of a wealth of knowledge; a great ability to learn and retain information.
Ambition: the power to work toward a goal, and the will and strength to keep working toward it even when that's hard to do.

What house do you think DOESN'T fit you? (This question is optional for those who feel they just DO NOT fit in a house. Please explain WHY.) I could answer this, but not without a borderline stereotype response, so I'll pass to avoid breaking a rule before I'm even in the community.

Where did you find out about us? I stumbled across this a week or so ago through someone's profile (a Hufflepuff... can't remember her name), but when I found it again through writes's profile when she commented in my roommate's LJ, I decided to join.

Oh, and I know I don't have any public posts in my LJ, but the link to my real blog is clear and it works, so there shouldn't be a problem verifying that I'm not wasting your time by applying.
