These Sorting sheets were last made in December 2009? In my first year in the dungeons? I know my own house best, so I might as well start there: in the fall of 2009 I emphasized that Slytherins were NOT going to try the same thing over and over when it has already been shown to fail, gratuitously mean, or risk takers for no reason. Of those: gratuitiously mean actually made it onto the cheat sheat at the bottom!

Looking at what else is on the cheat sheet, I think the word "ruthless" adds nothing to the bullet "ruthless and able to separate their idea of themselves from what they do" and puts this type of duality in a bad light; it's very possible to be a compassionate Slytherin after all (think of Regulus Black towards Dobby, or Severus Snape towards those he really cares about, or the Malfoys towards each other).

One trait I would like to add though - especially because it's become increasingly important in me over the past two or three years - is an instinct towards self-preservation: you can see this with the Phineas ( ... )
