in the spirit of myopic irresponsible decisions, I will mount my trusted steed tomorrow and head of to Tay Ninh province, site of the Holy See of the Cao Dai religion.  Cao Dai is a semi-indigenous religion to Vietnam.  ( Read more... )

I'm glad you're not letting your recent misfortune keep you from scooting around some more, and I dig the mini cultural film class, as I probably will never get to go out there myself, but am (if you didn't already know) super into that kind of stuff.

I was hoping someone besides me would find that interesting. If you can get your hands on it, Cyclo is a pretty interesting movie, and a lot of the scenes depict life in Saigon pretty well. I know there IS a mafia here and lots of people are in it, but I have no idea to what extent it's actually present in the lives of ordinary vietnamese people. I imagine, though, the movie is considerably dramatized. Still worth a watch though, definitely.
