My brother has not been to our house in about two years, by my reckoning.  Maybe more.  I invited him to dinner tonight, and I insisted on cooking it rather than have him treat us to dinner out.  I made one of the most mediocre meals I have ever made.  Seriously, if I had my way, the two side dishes would go right in the garbage.  Be that as it may ( Read more... )

I'm sorry to hear it.

Blood families are not nearly as durable as logical families, particularly as we get older. I mean, besides a little DNA, what do we really have in common? That we ate Dad's lumpy oatmeal around the same table fifty years ago?

Exactly. I feel a lot better today. At least I didn't have a meltdown or act out in any way that I should feel embarrassed about. I had a nice talk with Emily, about this among other things, which confirms that I've done better by her than was done by me and my siblings. That's comforting.

You'd better keep some distance from him. Inviting him to your home is obviously not a good idea. *big big hugs*

P.S. are you sure that you want to keep this entry public? Or does it somehow appear public only to me?

Thank you.
Re: keeping it public, my brother is extremely unsavvy when it comes to computers and the like. It would be absolutely astonishing if he were to try to find my LJ journal, let alone succeed.
He doesn't even like to correspond via email, and he screens ALL his phonecalls. A bit/lot paranoid.
Also, I am emailing him with some thoughts/reflections on yesterday. So he's going to know much of what I'm thinking, regardless.
