People, my favorite species

Lots of laughs at work lately.  A woman whom I'd judge to be a grandmother was strolling the aisles with her grandson, who asked me for help.  Where is your salsa, he wanted to know.  Aisle 13A, opposite the soups, I replied.  The grandma then inquired, "Is it in jars?" which threw me for a moment.  I mean, what else would it be in?  So I asked her ( Read more... )

The lack of common sense in the human race is remarkable. It's said that apes and human share 98% of the same DNA. I'm convinced the 2% differential has to do with our ability to talk...and say stupid stuff. I've had parents call Sylvan and say, "My son has an 'F' in algebra, can you raise it to a 'C'?" Uh, no, since there are now 3 weeks of school left. Perhpas if you had called us in January....

And I, too, know the joy of talking to people that actually have a clue. They make the world go 'round. :D

I have the opposite...issue. I don't care if I'm in the grocery store, JC Penney's or Home Depot, I get asked "do you work here?" I've often wondered if I have "former retail worker" stamped on my forehead.

When I actually DID work at Sears in college, I'd gone in one day to get my paycheck. I was wearing a tank top, sandals, a torn pair of jean shorts and had literally just rolled out of bed, messy hair and all. I was standing (not behind the counter either) waiting for my check, and some guy said "excuse me, do you work here?" I actually just said "yeah, I do." I'll never understand that one.

I even wrote a journal entry five years ago about this exact subject: http://bluesilverkdg.livejournal.com/16276.html

I should have clarified that statement. I am NOT the person who gets asked if she works there, but two of my coworkers are. I am like you in that, even before I started working at Wegmans (and without the telltale uniform with the embroidered logo) people asked me if I did.
Hmmm, I don't get asked at Home Depot. But OMG, let me set foot in a nursery and after a little while the EMPLOYEES are asking me questions!
