For those of you who didn't catch this news via my hubby's post, Emily took Zoey to our regular vet yesterday.  Babycakes doesn't have a hairball problem after all.  Nope.

She's got asthma.  Yup.  So now we're treating her with steroids.  Poor lambykins, she's been through so much.

cat, health

Thank you. We were joking last night that she's gonna bulk up. Which is hilarious, because she's tiny. The most delicate, fineboned kitty we've ever had.

Thank you. You know what's weird, though? Just now, Zoey and Michelle were trying to get into the bathroom vanity, where we store the mineral oil. Could it be they have a jones for it? Ewwwww...

ooh no kitty asthma! how sad! you have a tough little kitty.

A good friend has a cat with asthma, and they even have a little inhaler for it. Is that how your Zoey is taking steriods? My friend's poor cat thinks the inhaler is a torture device and its all heartbreaking to watch

Ohhhhh! So far the steroids are only in pill form, but they did say they could rig up an inhaler if need be. It's too soon to tell, but she seems a bit better. She slept in Emily's room last night, and Em reported that Zoey slept better and more deeply than she has in ages. I was touched that the vet's office called this morning to check on her, too.

Good times. The Boo went through a spate with bronchitis which we treated with steroids. She was VERY ENERGETIC. They gave me a kitty-sized breathing thingie, too, but luckily we never had to use that. The coughing was terrifying, though. Good luck with Miss Z! Hope she feels better soon!

Thank you. I was offered some additional hours at work this week, but I turned them down because I wanted to be home and keep an eye on her.

For my birthday, Ray gave me some money to spend at a craft store, as I'm thinking of blowing the dust off my artsy/craftsy skilz and making some stuff, possibly for sale. I cleaned my studio area yesterday and this morning I started inventory of some of my supplies. Zoey sat on the sewing machine adjacent, as if she wanted to be near me. So sweet. :)

Thank you! It's been wonderful so far.

I'm thrilled about Zoey, too!

BTW, I'm now 55 - the speed limit on the highway! W00t! W00t!

Well, that would explain why the hairball treatments didn't help much, wouldn't it?

*sigh*

Poor Zoey. That's a tough condition to have, especially for bouncy, playful kittens-at-heart. Hope the meds help. Thanks for letting us know.

Yeah, I thought of you as soon as I heard the new diagnosis. In retrospect, it also makes sense that it continued despite all the measures I was using to groom her. I would brush her using this "glove" thing I bought, and I'd hardly get anything off of her, yet she was as miserable as ever.

I love that I can get the meds at less than half price in the pharmacy of the store I work for. Nine seventy-eight beats the shit out of $26.10! Especially if this is chronic and/or recurring.

Just now, she was not content to sit on an ottoman in front of the living room window, where she can see the birds. Nope, she was sitting on the window sill. Can't keep a good woman down.

I do wish she could speak, though!
