I've been knitting Cameron's hat.  He is Emily's boyfriend, someone of whom we've become absurdly fond.  If you've followed my posts, and Ray's, you know we gave him a laptop for Christmas.  Meanwhile, back at the ranch (as I like to say), I noticed his hair is kept very short, and somewhere in there I asked Emily or him if he'd like a hat.  A ( Read more... )

Thank you. The responses to this are making me feel wonderful.
From a design standpoint, I had trouble at first, because when Em first said red and black, I thought ooh, that could be tacky. But I don't think it turned out tacky at all, and yet it's very bold. It's amazing how a project I started and finished in a week became so absorbing. Quite a challenge.

You'd better hope they don't break up then.

I totally hear you. I've thought about it - not a lot - I don't obsess - but they started off as friends, and I can't help but believe he'll be a part of our lives for a long time.
If they did break up I wouldn't begrudge a damn thing we've done for him.

From all adult children who came from families where they were emotionally abandoned by living, physically present parents, Thank You.

Also, that hat is fantastic. I never cease to wish that I could knit or crochet, however it is just not a talent I possess.

You are welcome, and thank you for the compliment. I don't know Cameron's parents well, but I know enough to think there's a certain type of woman who is so duty-oriented she loses sight of the basic human need for warmth.
Kinda reminds me of my own mother. Yikes. I don't mean to be critical of Cam's mom. We all do the best we can.

Thank you. I made one for myself, a year ago, while recuperating from the horrific burns I suffered. Mine is so dang warm, and soft and fluffy. When I use techniques involving repeated wrapping of yarn around other colors and carrying it across the back of the fabric, it makes something twice as thick as normal, and all the little pockets in the fabric make it toasty.
