Jordan was feeling ok after getting home from the vet's on Tuesday night, but after a day on the broad-spectrum antibiotics he feels lousy. He is sleeping constantly. He's exhausted, irritable, and has lost his appetite. I am doing my best to find things he will eat, and plan on calling the vet tomorrow to see if this is typical, if there are other ( Read more... )

This post touches on why I have made the very personal decision never to own a pet again.

I wish you courage and a happy rat.

It is very much the downside of having a pet. For me it is worth it, but I understand why it might not be.

And thanks. I am trying for both courage and a happy rat. He had a good time this morning, until about 30 minutes after I'd given him the antibiotics (which went more smoothly this morning). I'm waiting for the vet to call back. :/

I don't know if they can do this with antibiotics, or with meds for rats, but ask about transdermal.
For Ollie's anxiety meds, we tried pills...that was way to stressful for all concerned. Then we movied to liquid. I was told the best flavor for the drug was "vanilla butternut"...for a cat. He could smell it and still taste the meds. So that didn't work. Then I was told there's a transdermal version, you put it on like flea medicine on the back of the neck. I'm all over that. Don't know if it's an option for you, but can't hurt to ask.
