I know. Knock me over with a feather.

So I did a post a couple years back about the twelve known illegitimate children of our very busy Plantagenet bad boy, King John. Boy, for someone not very well liked, he sure got around. Being king is definitely an added factor in the romance department...or maybe he was just making up for his brother.

But Richard may well have had loads more bastards than the one we know about, only that his habit of throwing his mistresses to his mesnie when he got tired of them meant that their children weren't attributable to him.

I've been seeing a lot of online family trees linking John Lackland to an illegitimate son named Roger de Ireland supposedly born in 1180. I found that having illegitimate children was apparently nothing new for John but does anyone know from where this idea of Roger de Ireland came? I'm an Ireland descendant and am curious to learn more about this possible connection but very skeptical since I have been unable to find any source or info to back up this claim.

Thanks! If nothing else, it certainly has been fascinating reading about the shenanigans of the Plantagents!
