Anyone got a tip on how to keep the small one (just about to turn 2 years old) in bed until a civilised hour? She's been waking at 5am for the last 3 mornings

Music - we leave a radio on with the volume really low, which works to a point. There was a CD, once upon a time, but her ladyship has become expert in locating the CD and scratching it to bits *face!palm* so the radio came into play :)
Nightlights - none in operation, she kept waking up in the night if either that or the normal light was on (the latter on it's lowest dimmer setting).
Food - she has a big bottle of milk right before bed already. I'd leave her something to snack on if she woke up early, if I didn't think it'd crumb/leak everywhere..
We haven't tried white noise or a fan though, given the current heat that's probably worth a shot :)
If the child is getting enough sleep, the thing is to work things so that you can too, I suppose. If she's not, then you need tricks to increase her sleep.
My children both seem to NEED less sleep in summer than in winter; they show no signs of overtiredness or anything, but sleep less.
Various people have various rules - some have an automatic light which pops on (I think someone has one with rabbit ears which pop up!) when it's late enough to wake the parents and before that the child is supposed to play quietly in their own room. Some allow pre-breakfast TV (a disaster for my children, makes them grumpy as hell).
*ugg* Given how bright and spritely she is on sunny days (occasionally skipping her nap), I think the not needing as much sleep part probably does come into play.
We have been thinking about taking the side of her cot off and putting a gate on her doorway, which might well work. I'm not sure she'd get the idea that sunlight doesn't necessarily mean time for the whole house to wake up though.
Defo not keen on pre-breakfast tv either (which would require us to take her downstairs, turn it on etc anyway).
I dunno, I had a toddler who worked out that if she brought me a flask of coffee from the bedside table, I woke up less unpleasant than if she just hit me in the face repeatedly (an admittedly effective tactic if the goal is to wake me up). Some things are easy to figure out.
