[ACTION] Say hi to an elf?

Jul 29, 2011 05:33

[As Lúthien comes from a time when electricity wasn't even a twinkle in its father's eyes, she is beyond technologically impaired and wouldn't know what to do with a telephone except push the buttons and enjoy the sounds and lights that it produced as a result ( Read more... )

[Castiel is in the market almost every day anyway, but today he has a specific purpose in mind: he needs another coffeepot. (Yes, another.) Why he's been distracted by too-brightly colored plastic mugs is a mystery even he's unwilling to try to unravel.]

[He's not entirely sure what prompts him to speak to the woman, but he does.] This stall holds cheaply made items that are far too expensive. You'll have better luck if you visit the vendor half a block down.

[When Castiel speaks, Lúthien turns her head toward him and smiles, tapping a plastic bauble with the tip of her nail.]

Perhaps that is true. I have seen and worn gems whose beauty cannot be described in words, and yet in all my years I've never seen jewels such as these. [But maybe he has more experience with this type of thing? She holds a necklace up to the light, inspecting the seams and inclusions that mark the plastic.]

Do you know from what these have been fashioned? What substance is this?

[He blinks at her, taken back for a moment by her question. She's most likely not from the earth he knows, then.] It's a synthetic material called plastic.

Synthetic? Plastic? [The tone of her voice is one of complete unfamiliarity. She repeats them as if these are words she's never spoken or heard before. In the absence of scientific understanding, her mind turns to what it knows best.]

It is created with some form of magic, then.

[Vanyel is thinking that the market is becoming too familiar when he spots her. He's never seen a woman so tall before... he's a little envious of her height.

He walks over to the stall, peering at the jewelry.]

This material is deceiving...

Deceiving? In what way? [She looks at the jewelry, sensing no kind of magic about it. It seems perfectly harmless to her.]

[In Luthien, Sephiroth senses something great, reaching, and old, far more so than he's ever sensed on a person. The closest he's ever come to such a sensation was in a Reactor that was presently manufacturing power from the coursing Lifestream, the lifesblood of his world. That sense was old, of knowledge unending, of life ever-flowing. That was the sensation he felt approaching the woman browsing idle trinkets in the Market.]

There is nothing but costume jewelry here.

[The man that approaches Lúthien reminds her very much of some of her relations. His height and frame and his long, silver hair seem especially Elven to her eyes. The color of his hair actually reminds her somewhat of her father's. She gestures to all the cheap plastic.]

Costume jewelry? I find it fascinating; no Elf has ever crafted adornments such as these.

I do not know what an "elf" is except what I've learned in this place, but if that is what you are, then I would imagine that is because they are capable of crafting things far more valuable.

YOU WILL HAVE ELVEN COMPANY SOON! SERIOUSLY! spacedrmccoy July 30 2011, 03:52:53 UTC
[McCoy has been following the growing blooms for quite some time. Their pattern was... earratic, with no visible cause or origin and no real reason for them to be there. Following the trail he comes to a woman... a Beautiful woman unlike anything he's ever seen. Clearing his throat he taps her gently on the shoulder.]

Ah, excuse me, Miss. Could I ask you somethin'? [For some reason he'snervous and that makes his customary Georgian accent thicken into a full blown drawl.]

[Lúthien turns at the touch, her expression open and interested. Bones' accent, like many things today, is unlike any she's previously encountered.]

Yes? I shall answer if I can, though I fear my knowledge of many things in this world is quite limited.

[Gods above she was even more beautiful close up. McCoy managed a small smile.]
Ah, no, Miss. I was just askin' about the... [he looks down at the flowers at her feet.] How'd you do that?

She's like a tall, nice Vulcan, almost, with her pointy ears. starsabovemists July 30 2011, 04:46:07 UTC
[When he looks down, she follows his eyes to the growing number of flowers sprouting around the hem of her dress. Honestly, she was so used to them that she gave them little thought these days. It was more unusual to her when they did not bloom, but that had only happened in the lands very heavily under Morgoth's sway.]

Ah! These are the niphredil flowers. I've been told that they first bloomed at the hour of my birth, and since my earliest days they have always grown about me ere I go. [She pauses for another second to consider, wondering if she can be more specific. This man seemed interested in the flowers after a scholarly fashion, and that explanation would probably not satisfy his curiosity.]

I do not intentionally cause them to grow. I believe it is the influence of my mother's blood, for she is a Maia of the Blessed Realm, endowed with much magic and power.
