St Michael's Church, Kraynykovo, Ukraine

A couple of months ago, I went for an ethnographic festival on the other side of the Carpathians. The festival itself had nothing to do with any religion, but on the way there we made a stop at a little old village of Kraynykovo. Lovely! I'd really like to see a wooden church for myself. They're so different to the ones built of stone.

They are indeed. I've been to some that were built without using a single metal detail; that was really fascinating.

That's a very common technique in that part of the country. You can still see entire houses (walls and all) done like that.

I love wooden churches. The part of the country where I live still has a lot of those, but there are just four left of the kind I posted pics of.
