I agree! Plus the US version hang tags are too plain, why can't they provide the same design as the JP version?!

The biggest complaint I see here about pokecen merch is "Oh the US tags are soooo big and ugly, Japan FTW!" It doesn't bother me too much, but I'll admit Japan always gets nicer looking tags.

They could make the same tag design for all regions, only difference should be the language! Hell, they could even do "international" tags like Tomy does, and have a single product for the entire world. Are you taking notes Pokemon center ? You should be. =/

I paid $25 for mine, so somewhere around that I guess o: It's in new condition and has only been on display with me and the previous owner. I can provide pics too if needed

Agreed!
Back when the 1:1 Kanto starters came out in Japan, I told myself I'd wait for them to come out in the US. I've been tempted to buy a Japanese version several times over the past months, but... since I've already waited this long, I may as well stick to my original plan lol. Just to see how long it takes :p

Same here! A lot of people I've talked to are doing the same as well , to avoid middleman fees and overseas shipping for large items. If they want our money, they need to release the product so we can buy the product! lol

I admit though, it kills me a little bit every time someone posts "gets" of the 1:1 Kanto starters. =( I want them so much. This picture helps me wait:

Right! I mean, the Kanto starters would surely be popular over here. I bet they'd sell like hotcakes! (That free shipping over $50 deal would be nice to use, too.)

Haha, that pic's what it feels like xD I honestly feel the same way. I love seeing pictures of them and am happy to see others enjoying them, but on the other hand, it also reminds me that PokemonCenter.com still doesn't have them yet. It's gotta be soon, right? /forever hoping ;_;

I think it's because the price of plush is so much lower in America, they don't want Japanese fans to import the cheaper American versions instead of buying them domestically, so they release them later. It's similar to how the Japanese releases of American music CDs get extra tracks or special packaging, because CDs cost way more in Japan and there needs to be an incentive to buy the domestic version when it'd be cheaper to import the US version.

The same reason Nintendo region locks their systems then? I didn't know the plush were that much more expensive though.... If a standard pokecen plush sells for $12.99 in the US, how much do they charge in Japan?

Actually, looking up the Japanese prices, they don't seem that much different. I'm used to Japanese toys costing so much!

This is just a guess, but I assume that for any and every Japanese toy that they want to import and sell in the US, the toy has to undergo a rather long checklist of approvals and checks. It's probably safe to assume that the US has different toy safety regulations than Japan does, along with regulations on trademarking/copyrights and setting a price.

What about the video games, like XY, ORAS, that released on the same day worldwide? Wouldn't that apply to them as well? It just seems like they could do these things in advance, if that was the reason.

For that, I'd have to say it is affected by the market and demand. They've got years and years of data to show that any Pokemon video game they pump out will be a hit regardless of region or country, but for Pokemon Center merchandise, they probably review and evaluate it's popularity on a case-by-case basis. For instance, a selling point of Slowpoke Day merchandise in Japan is based on how Slowpoke's Japanese name sounds like the date August 10th. That same pun doesn't really carry over in the US, so it might not make as much sense to put out the same merchandise over here. At the very least, they would have to think of a different way to promote or advertise it.

I didnt mean that I expected everything to come over here, but things like starters, eevees, legends, etc. would definitely sell along side the games if they stocked them!

Also for what its worth, I bought some of that Slowpoke day merch. lol
