This has been on-going for the last 2 weeks pretty heavily, but was only recently spoken of in the news. A friend of mine works for Canada Post, and they brought the issues up to me that they were facing. Apparently, Canada Post is trying to become more efficient in terms of extending service hours, but cannot afford to pay overtime to night shifts and weekends. That is one of the main points. It is tough for both sides. I apologize in advance to anybody who will be negatively affected by this pending strike/lockout. I myself have a few packages that I haven't' been able to mail out due to the service disruptions. Unless you are mailing express (EMS equivalent), DO NOT ship out items, as there is a very high chance they will not reach their destinations.

Good luck to all my fellow Canadians out there, both selling and collecting. These are tough circumstances.

" Canada Post has informed the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) that what our employees and our customers need is long-term certainty in the postal system. Therefore, we are fully prepared to negotiate intensively for the next 30 days under an extended “cooling off period” to reach negotiated settlements. However, if the parties are unable to successfully conclude negotiations within that period, both parties must agree to binding arbitration."

We are good for an other 30 days! :)

Unfortunately, it seems like Canada Post didn't agree to the arbitration part after the 30 days, so it's likely that there is a lockout on Monday :(

The info I shared was taken directly from the website and it was posted on July 08, 2016 by Canada Post in the "News and alerts" section at the bottom of the page. I just checked and I don't see any other news :/ the latest one was that one.
