The lack of ambition in the Senate House was... disappointing, Octavian decided as the Greeks took the floor once more. An alliance was in the works, but Octavian had the feeling the Praetors' hearts weren't in it. It was just a hunch, perhaps it had something to do with the dazed eyes the new praetor was exchanging with his girlfriend, or the look of astonishment on Reyna's face every time she glanced at Jason. Yes, his return was a miracle but did she need to stare at him like that? Octavian tried not to make a face as Percy gave the blonde girl another one of the looks. Percy was not fit for this role, the dirty Greek, however Reyna certainly wasn't acting the part either. He knew exactly what the problem was, the missing element to this historic day in demigod history. It was ambition. The drive for success, not their partner alone in their Praetor House. Octavian, on the other hand, had ambition in abundance because he had always known ambition is everything. And one day, one day, he will have that Praetor robe, and New Rome

Octavian wouldn’t be standing in the Senate House surrounded by leaders if he lacked ambition.
He knew better than anyone that he was only a distant descendant of Apollo living at a camp full of kids who were born directly from famous and powerful gods and goddesses. Kids who had more talent than a spotty prophecy every now and then. Octavian was useful because he’d stepped up to take the job as Roman seer and convinced everyone that he did it well. Most of the unfortunate stuffed animals that met the end of his knife were for show (and sometimes for fun) more than anything.
He wasn’t strong, and there weren’t a lot of people he would be able to beat in a fair fight.
When demigods like Jason Grace and Percy Jackson came along who radiated power, charisma and authority without even trying, Octavian had to remind himself that without the will to be somebody, he would be nobody. He had to remind himself that ambition is everything.
Reyna had low expectations for Piper. She didn't have much talent with weapons, she scared way too easily at monsters, and she was just as likely to wear a dress into battle as she was armor. It took a long time for her to realize why Jason had picked the daughter of Aphrodite (Aphrodite!) to be his partner. That is, until she stopped the two camps from fighting single handed.
It wasn't unusual for the camps to argue, but this had changed so rapidly from a small argument of how much longer the Greeks were allowed to stay in Camp Jupiter into a full out battle, that Reyna was left speechless. People were already hurt, and she didn't imagine that it would be too much longer before someone got killed. If that happened, Reyna knew that there would never be peace between the Romans and the Greeks.
And still, she found herself sitting on the sidelines, watching campers attack each other, and not knowing how to even begin to step in, much less stop the fight. There we dozens of teens trying to tear each other apart. It's too big she

There was something about being back home that made Percy feel absolutely content. He had missed the skyline, the busy streets, the people, the city lights. Even the crazy taxi drivers. Home. When was the last time he'd thought of that one word without feeling an emptiness in his chest
