On Religion

I have been, and am, somewhat critical of organized religion from time to time. However, a lot of people will note, and have noted, that I am a lot less critical of religion than a lot of other liberals, and I don't rant against it or argue that it is all nonsense. Matt, your position is very close to mine. I was staunch Catholic for 32 years, as I've mentioned to you about a decade ago. I kept the ethics part of Catholicism. I still find the Protestant stand too selfish (salvation by faith alone, the Bible as the sole authority, anson). So, I really don't have a spiritual home.

Tax season finally ended, so I went to Mass last Sunday for the first time in over a year to pray for my mother's soul. She remained Catholic, so in deference, I followed that part of Catholicism.

My biggest argument against the prelates is their perverted view of sex (especially that nonsense that manustupration is a mortal sin). If they want to foolishly take a vow of celibacy, fine. The rest of us did not. My political representatives do not tell me which religion I should join, and the prelates have no right to tell Catholics how to vote. They disobey the command of Christ to render unto Caesar what is Caesar's, etc.
