ATTENTION: ANYONE FAMILIAR WITH ZE KOREAN LANGUAGE

I have a friend who knows someone who doesn't speak a single word of English and cannot seem to communicate the pronunciation of her own name. The romanization is Yoon Yoo. Is this pronounced the way it looks or would it sound different?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I'm not fluent in Korean or anything, but I can read and pronounce Hangul, and it should be pronounced exactly as it's spelled there. With the oo being equivalent to a u. If she can spell it in hangul for you it should look like this:

윤유

Or it could be this:

연 유

which would sound more like Yeon Yoo. I hope that helps!

Honestly, we'd have to see the Korean lettering to be sure. There is no standard Korean romanization, so "oo" could be "eo", "u" or "oo". The most common romanization would have it as 윤유, like aunt_agatha said, which is pronounced like it looks in English: "Yoo" is said like "you" in English, so "you+n you".

I didn't know that - I love it when I learn new things. :D :D :D

Thanks, babe. I passed this on to my friend - she will probably be interacting with this person alot. <3
