Anyhow, while it is so easy for you now to say that your friend should just open their eyes and quit living in denial, they should be permitted to go through with the experience at any duration as one needs to have. You could make sense of the matter as much as you want, but you could never force anybody to just snap out of it. As you would know, it takes time. :]

You're right about not being able to force someone to snap out of it. I definitely know it takes time, since I did the same thing with Jan. I was in denial for a long time and kept hoping things would work, so I know how hard it is. It's just frustrating to know that so many people are going through that same thing, b/c I know it sucks and I just want everyone to be happy instead of wasting their time in a relationship that seems to be going towards a dead end. Everything will work out for everyone the way it should, I suppose.
