I'm back from the Bay Area. We got back on Sunday and have pretty much slept nonstop since then. I did have an interview at a temp agency on Monday and then grocery shopping, but besides that, I've been too tired to do much of anything. We drove all night on Saturday to get here early enough to pick Annabelle up. So yeah... I think being exhausted ( Read more... )

glad you were able to enjoy part of your trip (get time off)

If you get a job up in the bay area, be prepared for the sticker shock and DO look for places to live that may be further out (where we live is pretty cheap and we aren't far from BART) Berkeley/Oakland is centrally located but don't be afraid to move further east, south or north, there will still be mass transit options.

also, even if you get a temp job, doesn't mean it'll be long term (we are generally unemployed in between temp gigs)

But we do prefer living in the SF Bay area vs Southern California even though for us, it'd be easier to get work in So cali (yeah less competitive in our field in O.C/LA.)

we'd love to see you both up here, but I'd make sure to do the research before packing up and coming up here..

yeah I know I can be a bit of a Debbie Downer...

LOL I told her the same thing before she moved here from MO. I even sent her apartment magazines to show her how much rent is out here in SoCal. ;-)

Yup. And I was prepared and made it work out obviously!

(My real estate masters degree does come in handy sometimes lol)

Yep, I've considered the cost of living and wouldn't accept a job that wasn't able to provide a comfortable life. The jobs I'm qualified for and applying for have a range of $75,000-110,000. And I've already done the market research on rents and figured a budget to determine what I'd need to get to make it work. I do that for all jobs I apply for... My finance and real estate masters degree comes in handy sometimes ;)

I'm looking at jobs in real estate development and the salaries actually do fit the cost of living unlike what I've found down here.

The Bay Area is awesome, but the cost of living there is insane. That's the main reason why I don't live there :/

I'm finding jobs that are in my field up there that pay way more than I could ever dream of making. I could only do it if I got one of these jobs. I've figured a budget out and we'd live well if I got the job... Otherwise, it's a no go.
