Unique And Ugly Sims Submission Post

Aug 20, 2008 08:51

When I was looking for suggestions from you guys about what we should do with this community, somebody posted that they would like to see a tutorial on how to make unique sims in body shop/CAS or whatever, since many people make sims that usually end up looking the same.

Personally, I thought this was a great idea- I'm all for unique looking sims! But then came the issue: how am I going to do this? It's really up to the creators themselves, there's no standard way. Sure, I could ask around the people that are viewed as the most talented in making them and throw in my tips along the way- but before I was able to do that, I came to a conclusion: a lot of people don't use the sliders much because they are afraid their sims will end up looking ugly.

Here's what I do:

1) I load up two either cloned born in game, maxis-made sims, or downloaded sims and I make them "have a baby" in CAS. If there are two males or females whose genes I'd like to combine, I change the gender of one of them.  I will use my August founder, Belladonna (the alien) as an example.   Believe it or not, she started her life as a product of Dale Forest  (
simsforaranya), and Bao-Dur Dork (
katu).

2) Once I get a result that I like by rolling the pacifier a couple of times, I then tweak them a bit with the sliders and they usually end up in a test lot so I can load them up in body shop using SimPE.

3) While in body shop, I tweak the sim yet again with the sliders using ones that aren't available in CAS. Usually by this point the genes of the original clones I used to create this sim are barely recognizable.

4) I tend to have a certain character or personality trait in mind when I go about creating these sims.  When I made my Belladonna, I went into body shop with a thought that I was going to make "an extreme feminist who really hates men". Now, I don't know whether or not I did my job with that, but it really helped me figure out what sort of features my sim would have.

5) Of course, you don't have to follow these rules- I'm just telling you how I do it. There's not really any limits when creating sims, only the limitations you make for yourself because of the fear you'll make something not attractive.

If anybody would like to add to this list of tips, then go right ahead.

With that being said, I really would like to see the kind of sims that you view as ugly! May it be a born in-game sim from two good looking parents that came out looking awkward, or a sim you created yourself just for this post. For ones created for here, the more unique or ugly looking, the better! Do not be afraid! Show me your huge noses, small noses, big eyes, pronounced cheekbones, large chins, little eyes, weird aliens, gigantic lips, and tiny mouths! And if you can, please include a small picture of them, put them up for download and post the link here.

If you have created them in Bodyshop, please make up a name for them so if anybody uses them in their own game, they will have one right away. You don't need to put personality stats, but you are free to if you really want. I don't mind these submissions to have a little custom content because it could be taken out with clean installer if people don't want them, but I really would like it if you use your defaults instead of custom skin and eyes. Sometimes it's really annoying having to guess which eye or skin color they were if you didn't download the custom ones they came with!

We also highly suggest that if you create a sim in bodyshop, please don't make the sliders go to one extreme side.  Extremeties aren't ugly, they're just deformed and not unique looking at all.

I'll show you some of my sims now: I have some amazing ugly from a genetic experiment with maxis-made sims Malcom Landgraab and Gunnar Roque- specifically a male and female named...

Janis

AND

Marley

I also have a sim named Bibble Gieke that was a product of Edsel Iskabibble (from the SimSperiments) and Chester Gieke.

You can see and get them here. I might possibly make a sim in bodyshop to show you guys what I come up with, but lately it seems to hate me and takes forever to load up.

These sims are to be used for potential spouses/donors for the
pixel_tradeGroup Uglification Challenge (PTGUC), but you could also download them to do anything you want!
