I swear by PNC. I even moved out of the region served by PNC, and still use PNC. I even live next door to a Washington Mutual and 2 blocks from a Chase, opened an account at Washington Mutual, and was so unimpressed that I still do almost everything through PNC. But the things I like about PNC so much won't apply to you. PNC has incredibly good online banking/bill paying. There's free interest checking if you have direct deposit and pay a bill online every month.

What you should do is switch your primary bank to PNC and leave National City for the place you sock away money for fun things. That's what I ended up doing with my non-PNC account.

I couldn't stand PNC's online banking--unless they've changed it recently. National City at least credits your account as soon as you pay bills, instead of waiting until the check clears. If I wanted to wait until the check cleared, I'd send a normal check. My 2 cents.

That's exactly why I like PNC's online banking. Why shouldn't I have that money sitting in my account collecting interest until the check actually clears? PNC tells you how many dollars of bills you have scheduled, but it doesn't deduct it too soon. There are really no advantages to having your money deducted sooner. It cuts down on your flexibility.

well, to each his own. For me it cuts down on bounced checks! ;-)

Personally, I'd go with anything other than PNC. I, my family, and many of my friends have had very bad experiances with them for chequing, savings, and business accounts.

I currently use Citizens, and they are OK. I don't have any experiance with the other banks you listed. No bank is 100% perfect, but I will never go back to PNC.

PNC is the best. Nice people, easy to use systems, branches everywhere, ATMs everywhere. Just if you go outta PA you're kinda screwed lol as far as ATMs.

good point about going out of the area.

Irwin Bank doesn't charge you to use someone else's atms and if the other place charges you, Irwin Bank reimburses you. so that's a really good benefit to have if you're just using your account for travel and fun stuff.

I had very bad experience with PNC - they are very creative with the ways to maximize the extra fees.
I was very happy with 5/3 when I lived in Ohio, however, I am not sure if they have enough ATMs in PA.
