national city

i hate national city bank. i went there to cash a check that was a wedding gift and they told me that since it was made out to both my husband and i...that he had to sign it. i have never heard of that before. it's just this one branch in olympia shopping center. my husband isn't on my account and doesn't have an account there. i was so pissed ( Read more... )

That does suck, but it's not uncommon. When my wife and I got married we both had to sign each and every check that we got even though it was all going into her account.

Actaully neither bank should have cashed it. Whomever/whatever is written in the "pay to the order of" section is legally binding and is how it must be signed on the back to be cashed. If it were to be deposited its different.

Unless you have power of attorney for your husband registered and/or forge his signature.

Though it is stupid and a pain in the butt. Also national city has never had really good service in Pittsburgh. Luckily the branches where I live now, Dayton Ohio, are much better.

Here's how it works (or it should):

If it says "Pay to the order of Jack and Jill Smith":

Jack Smith and Jill Smith must endorse the check.

If it says "Pay to the order of Jack or Jill Smith":

Either Jack or Jill can endorse.

soon you will learn to do as I do and just forge your husband's signature before you go to the bank. I am a professional forger of my husband's signature. (with his consent, of course!)
