The entire northern half of Africa is basically in open revolt, demanding actual Democracy, and the evening news here doesn't even report on it? "Cats rescued from fire", "trucks speeding on a back road", and ten minutes of Julie Bologna explaining snow ( Read more... )

Actually, for a mix of local/national/international news, turn to public radio.

Is there anything better than WDUQ? It's remarkably frustrating to have the NPR station play more than half music...

Not in Pittsburgh, it really sucks. I tend to listen to Morning Edition for the morning commute and then switch to WBUR (Boston's 24 hour NPR) station in between until All Things Considered. I stream BUR on my laptop or use the Public Radio app for my iPhone in the car.

It works for me. Although, sometimes I get the weather forecasts mixed up. And, I grew up in Massachusetts so I get to hear local news from there too.

My husband says that when he donates to DUQ, he subtracts half of what he normally would give them because we don't listen to the station outside of NPR shows.

I wish local news had more serious journalism, but it doesn't. So I skim the PostGazette every day for local stuff then watch Al Jazeera and BBC for news about the world.

I second this. American news broadcasts are notoriously Americentric, to the point that unless Americans are involved, we get at best minimal coverage.

Yep, I second/third/etc. Al Jazeera, they're very good. I also visit Deutsche Welle on a regular basis- another good news source, particularly for keeping up to snuff in German (but they have news in English too).
