Salam's Halal Meats in Oakland sells organ meats like kidneys, hearts, liver, and tongue from cows, goats, and sheep. It's not that close to downtown, but it's a single-shot bus ride up and a three-block walk away from the 61 lines.

Salem's was supposed to be opening a location in the Strip, next to their new restaurant on Penn, but I'm not sure if it's open yet.

The meat vendor at the Farmer's Market at Phipps also offers lamb kidney.

not open yet, but getting mighty close. I get takeout from Salem's Grille, and have been watching the progress next door and they tell me August or Sept, the store will open.
Their food is GREAT and the folks who work there are so nice.

*snort* I was all ready for this to be someone trolling the community...

If you call the meat section of any grocery, even Giant Eagle, they should be able to tell you about the availability of pluck either at their store or someplace nearby. It also sounds like something you could find if you look into mom-and-pop run ethnic food stores.

Sorry I don't have anything more specific. Good luck!

Me too. I was waiting for something like this:
Does anyone know where I can find some kidneys? Times are tough these days for us small businessmen and my costs for seedy motel rooms and bathtubs full of ice are going through the roof! That coupled with the fact that there just aren't as many people traveling these days makes it hard for me to make quota this month.

I live in the Mon Valley, but I can go anywhere that is close to downtown, as well as the West End.

Thanks for your help! My pap will appreciate it.

Dear mxyt, please excuse my post, I mean no offense.

No offense taken! I laughed a lot. I actually did leave the first line kind of vague on purpose. (;

I'd also look into contacting any local butchers by phone or go in and talk to them they may be able to help you out and if they don't sell them there they may also be able to refer you to somewhere that you can find them :)

Good luck!!! and yay for old school Italian Yinzers! My pap was the same, but sadly he passed away 6 years ago and was only in his 60s but he liked that stuff as well! I could never bring myself to try any of it. I did like the calamari and such when I was a kid (they didn't tell me what it was though haha same w/ octopus) HOpe ya find what he's looking for!!

They're located near the McKees Rocks bridge in New Brighton. I also bet that Wholey's has some.

Um... Brighton Heights, not New Brighton. ;-)

Fridays has anything and everything meant related. Just call ahead and they'll put it aside for you.

also try Wholey's in the Strip. They have a fantastic butcher shop too.
