Preferred ISP?

I'm moving out to Brookline in a couple of weeks, where I'll have a choice of ISP's, instead of my current choice in Swissvale of Comcast and Comcast. Seems that I can get Fios at this particular address in Brookline. If you've used both Comcast and Fios, which do you prefer? I'm not going to get phone or TV service through either, just the ( Read more... )

At work (in Sharpsburg), I've used both Fios and Comcast. (Our main service was Comcast...but we sometimes tapped into the Fios used by another company in our building as a backup.) Both seemed to be about the same...speed-wise.

Okay. Thanks. I guess I'm wondering at least as much about consistent relability and price.

Nidhog does FiOS. They use Verizon's fibre, but the Internet connectivity and customer service comes from Nidhog, who are fantastic.

Nidhog: A local ISP with fantastic customer service, named for Níðhöggr, the mythological Norse dragon who chews at the roots of Yggdrasil, the World Tree.

We use Verizon Fios and the internet is lightning fast and the same price as what we were paying for Comcast.

PS: You really notice a difference in download speed. Ryan is a programmer and downloads gargantuan files all the time. A file the size of a full length movie takes about 3 minutes, which is VERY fast.

We just switched to Fios from Comcast and it's AWESOME. It seems to be faster than our old comcast. It took so little time to download a game on Xbox Live. It would have taken our old comcast longer. It also seems to be a whole lot better during peak times than Comcast was.

I'm loving the FiOS over the Comcast. Nidhog is a great company and would be a fantastic way to take advantage of the FiOS but then also have smart people to help you trouble shoot any issues. When we signed up Verizon was offering one free month of service and we only got the internet, no phone or tv services. Very happy, really fast, no problems with service yet, but we are only one month in.
