Check with http://www.clarissaboutique.com/index.html on the Southside. I used them for alterations for my wedding, but I'm not sure if they do cleaning/preservation.

Pittsburgh Dry cleaners in Monroeville used to do it (I was their preserver and boxer way back when). You might want to give them a call.

Also, if your dress has lots of beading and the like on it, be very very careful who you give it to. I've seen more than one wedding dress come out of the perk with melted beads, because the care tag says "dry clean only" but they really only mean the fabric, not the ornamentation. Ask the cleaner specifically about it if you can.

I didn't even think about that...
Thanks for the heads-up!

prosperity cleaners in brentwood (right across from brentwood towne center at the corner of Rt. 51 and Brownsville Rd) does preservation IIRC.

I use them for all my dry cleaning and have no complaints. Also, they are enviro friendly and don't use nasty chemicals.

Is your dress an antique? Gowns made before the 1990s generally do not need to be preserved, due to the nature of the modern fabrics. My best friend owns a bridal shop - they simply turn the dresses inside out and wash on gentle in a regular machine. Gown made predominately of cottons, silks and other natural fabrics need to be preserved, but most gowns today are made from man-made materials which do not need preservation.
