I have looked at every single book listed under the Carnegie Library's "Pittsburgh - History - Pictorial Works" category, and highly recommend the books about each neighborhood. It's fascinating to see how the neighborhoods developed over the last 200+ years, and there's a lot of interesting historical tidbits and facts. It's pretty fun finding mundane buildings that you normally pass without a thought and then learning a bit more about them. I didn't know that my current workplace, for example, used to be a furniture store circa 1900 or that the apartment buildings down my street were former schools until I saw them in these books. If you enjoy learning random stuff like that, then check it out.
