Aquarium supply question

Feb 10, 2009 11:49

I'm searching for a store that sells freshwater snails, preferably larger ones. I've looked around at several of the Petcos in the area with no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions where I might purchase them?

If it's still there, try Elmer's Aquarium on Business 22 in Monroeville.

I don't often go out that way but it might be worth the trip. Maybe I can check in the phonebook.

It's still there. It's the only place I go for aquarium stuff so I definitely toss my vote in for it too.

As other have said Elmer's is the place to go. Give them a call first to make sure they have them in stock. You are basically looking for Mystery or Apple Snails. Most stores use the name interchangeably even though they aren't actually the same species. Either way you'll end up with a large freshwater tropical snail - so make sure you are using a heated tank. http://www.fishpondinfo.com/snail2.htm has good information on both.

I can't do a tank heater. I know there are several species that don't require them. The tank I have is a northern stream/river tank. A heater isn't an option. I can call Elmer's though and see if there are more options.

I'll definitely give them a call. Distance isn't an issue.

I've bought several freshwater snails at the PetCo in the Waterfront. They've got *tons* of Black Mystery and Inca snails, among others.

I'll have to check again. LAst time I was out there was around Christmas and their stocks were all low.

Really? I was there once around the end of November and they had probably fifty or sixty of each type.

It was literally a day or two before Christmas. Hmm.. I can always try again.
