So, if the Pens end up playing the Red Wings, I thought yinz might be interested in two important true facts:

1) Detroit is only a 4 or 5 hour drive.
2) The Wings have not been selling out their playoff series.

Thanks for the tip. I have family in that area. Could be worth a trip if one of the games is on a Saturday.

Not only is Detroit a quick trip, but I have my parents right off the Ohio Turnpike about 2 1/2 hours away (just west of Cleveland) and an aunt and uncle in Detroit which is 2 hours from mom and dads. Free lodging, free meals and usually free gas result from a trip like that :D.

This would make for a great trip, I've never been to an away game before!

Even though it's still and "if", this post was perfect. I didn't realize the detroit tickets weren't selling out.

Yeah; apparently it's mostly because Detroit's so economically depressed (and their prices for tickets are pretty high). The TV ratings for the Wings are stellar and they have a huge fanbase, but.

here is one article about it

Is the area really so economically depressed that you can't find 20,000 people willing to shell out for a playoff game? To see the Red Wings? In "Hockeytown"? One of the Original Six? The greater Detroit area has twice the population Pittsburgh does. That's not even including people who could come in from Canada, who, rumor has it, love their 'ockey, eh?

I know times are getting tough, but given as big of a market they are and how well the team is playing right now, there is no excuse for not selling out every playoff game.

Don't jump the gun; even if playoff tickets aren't selling out, Stanley Cup finals are another matter. Sports fans from beyond the cities involved buy tickets to those games (like the World Series or Superbowl) and the prices are pretty steep.

If you can finagle it, go for it, but be ready to get your tickets the minute they're on sale to the general public because they will not last.

This is true, but given how much trouble the Wings are having filling the arena, it's probably a much better bet than trying to get tickets to the potential home games if you aren't a season ticket holder.

Ok, now you can carry on.

Also keep with the jinxing of Detroit.

yeah, but if I jinx Detroit TOO much, people will not be able to road-trip there for the Cup!

Though at least we'd get home-ice advantage against Dallas.
