If you find one, please share. I'm still using my crappy sectional that should have gone to couch heaven long ago because this is such an impossible thing to find.

Also, if they do deliver, be aware that they might not remove your old couch (if you have one) due to liability issues. It sucks being a single gal in the city.

Big Lots often has furniture that isn't terrible, looks pretty good, for not much money. It obviously won't be top of the line stuff, but it will be new and probably better quality than you can get at IKEA for the same price, will be something that you won't be ashamed to have people see. Some of the patterns aren't all that great but some are good.

I second Big Lots - and suggest thrift stores. You can always buy a couch cover to replace a yucky pattern and personalize your couch according to your sense of style. This is great if you're the crafty type.

Also, IKEA's "As-Is" room might have something - so don't give up. We got our couch there for $300 and it was originally $999 - all we had to do was replace a few missing legs.

It might help to check any garage or house sale listings from students in the area - I used to find a lot of "gently used" furniture from CMU students who were moving out of town.

Unfortunately, delivery might be a problem with these options.

I second IKEA. Sometimes, the only thing wrong with those items is they're missing minor parts. Some months ago, I scored a nice display case for my model cars. I don't recall what I paid for it, but the only thing wrong...was that it was missing the box! Apparently, the box was damaged in transit, and someone in the store assembled it. They couldn't sell it as new, so it was dumped in the As-is area.

sometimes the only thing wrong is that the *box* is screwed up. A friend of mine got a massive dining room table---with leaves that allowed it to seat up to 10 or 12---from a Philly IKEA for about 20 dollars. (He actually paid more for each chair he wanted to go with it than for the table itself, I think.)

(the only thing wrong with the table, I should add, was that the box had been dropped in transit or something, and one corner was somewhat crumpled. But, absolutely no damage to the table, whatsoever.)

My friend is moving to Florida and is getting rid of everything in multiple houses that he owns. He has nice leather furniture that I'm sure he will give you a great deal on and help you move it. If interested, comment in my journal and I will give you his email in a secure post.
