just moved from northeast philadelphia (2 weeks ago), I'm living in Wexford, PA with my roommate. our school is in downtown Pittsburgh. is there ANYTHING exciting about this city? we're both 20, and all the clubs seem to be 21+. weekends are starting to become harder to get through than our school days. help?

museums, art: galleries, things to do, coffeehouses, entertainment: music, things to do: under 21, entertainment: clubs

Move. You're far too far away from the majority of the student population of the city (and thus actual activity) living in Wexford. Not to knock it too much (my boyfriend lives there), but it is just a suburb far out from the city with a certain kind of population that's not exactly the kind that's into going out in the way that you probably want to. Try Oakland/ Shadyside/ Friendship/ Southside, and you'll meet more people your own age who can clue you into what to do.

I was pretty much going to say what this person said.

Cranberry is a pleasant area, but not well suited to the student lifestyle. Heck, it's actually in a different county than Pittsburgh, so.

Oakland, Shadyside, the Southside, and Squirrel Hill are all nice areas with higher student populations. Even if you can't actually move, you can start going to those areas on weekends and hanging out. Good luck!

I can't move, my apartment was provided through the school's housing system, and the rent is discounted. I'm open to traveling down to the city. it's not that bad of a drive, plus I'm living in a community with other girls that are about the same age as me.

Wednesday nights at Pegasus (818 Liberty Avenue, downtown) are definitely 18+ for the dark alternative dance night Ceremony, and I'm fairly sure most other nights that they are open are 18+ as well. Their website isn't the most up to date, so it might be worth it to call them and ask to be sure. The club is renovating a bit right now, and it's really nice inside. There's a separate bar for 18-20 to get water/soda/energy drinks and such, and a multi-level dancefloor that's pretty neat.

I know a bartender there and they are planning to start phasing out some of their 18+ nights from what he's heard. Part of that renovation is the installation of a large garage-door to section off the club, so there might be the possibility of some divided club events.

well, that is very sad. I know that our DJ crew was very happy to find an 18+ club. if they change that, then I can't think of anywhere else in the city with a club night event that is not 21+

and personally, from DJing an event that has gone from 18+ then to 21+ and then back to 18+ I have seen that the energy and vibrant mood of the night unfortunately dwindles when you cut off the 18-20 crowd. they bring the party.

Don't get me wrong, I think they're just as happy to have Ceremony as you are to be there. They will definitely still do 18+, the impression he had was that it was just not going to be on the nearly nightly schedule that it's running now.

Do you have other interests than clubbing? I can't name any 21 or under clubs, but if you tell me what you're interested in, I can certainly name a lot for you.
