Does anybody know how to participate in the Polar Bear swim on New Year's? I have tried google, but didn't find what I need to know. When is it? And, what does one have to do to be part of the spectacle? Is there some sort of ritual or bribes required?

Thanks! ;-)

There's a Pittsburgh Polar Bear Club (or maybe it's the Polar Bear Club of Pittsburgh) that does it. I have had no luck tracking it down online for you.

Out of curiosity, I saw just about this same question on the Pittsburgh Craig's list [click here to see it]. Was that from you, too? If not, you might want to see if they get an answer.

Here is the KD report on the Jan. 1, 2006 plunge. You could try asking someone at KDKA or perhaps the Post-Gazette to help you with contact info for the club. (Just call the main number and tell them what you are trying to find out. The worst they could do is say "no".)

They were on WDVE yesterday. They said to show up at 9:30am sharp on the Mon parking wharf. They may or may not charge for parking. They said the parking authority changes the policy each year.
