... And then there was Britpop. And I can't talk about Britpop without starting with Oasis, because, well, Oasis ( Read more... )

Excellent choice. One of my most vivid memories of the mid-90s is singing this song with about a dozen other people crammed into a crappy hotel room in Paris (school trip; it snowed so hard the Eiffel Tower was closed the day we tried to go up it). It must have just come out, thinking of how the dates work out. I too sided with Oasis, partly because I dug the music, partly out of some sort of vague sense of regional/class loyalty, I think. In more recent years I've come to be a bit less unforgiving in my assessment of Blur, funnily enough, even if they remain kind of posh and pretentious. But yes, I don't think there's anything wrong with still liking this one; it's got something about it, and for me at this remove Britpop is all about the memories, about my youth... ;D

Oh, I've become more forgiving of Blur with the years, too. I think 13 came out at the same time as Be Here Now? I definitely preferred the Blur one, anyway.

And lol, I know exactly what you mean about Britpop being about the memories. I have a few memories like that too ;)

(also, jealousy jealousy. I've heard British people mention in the past school trips to different countries! I'm just left here sitting and being jealous at the prospect, more than 10 years after my last school trip :D)

Yeah, they've done a lot of good stuff over the years, have Blur, but...not wanting to use the "p" word again, but yeah, they always have been to some extent, really. ;D

The older I get, the more I find myself living in the past. :)

Probably don't have them any more, cuts and all that. ;)
