opportunity knocks?

My former boss grew serious last week when I was giving him a quick update on the Hudson project, which is really saying something since the dredging is supposed to start next month and we're still fighting with GE about the monitoring...he's been been uncharacteristically serious for weeks. But this time he wasn't thinking about data quality ( Read more... )

It does...it would really be silly of me not to take it. I'll learn to be a morning person...it can't be that hard, right? ;-)

You're asking me that??? You're friendly neighborhood vampire?

You can cope with anything for a set amount of time.

LOL!!! It was rhetorical, my dear vampire ;-)

I can...and the payout will be worth it. There are a lot of things that this will help me work out, I think, financially and otherwise. I am both looking forward to it and scared of it. I love my apartment and my space, and I was starting to get back into the routine that I'd lost. But it'll be okay...it will be waiting for me when I finish, and maybe I'll be in a better place to appreciate it.

I'd take it too, but shouldn't they be paying for an apartment someplace close for that? That's a lot of wear and tear on your car, probably more than $5-6k over the course of 6 months.

The client doesn't want to pay per diem for any of the staff...the only reason that he could ask me is because I have family there I can stay with and I won't need a per diem. Most of the team out of the Albany office will be driving as far as I will from my dad's place.

They will pay me mileage, which would cover my gas but not the plethora of oil changes that I'll need or any other things that crop up. The car is in good shape and I wouldn't expect anything to happen with it, but I really don't want to put 80-100 miles a day on it for such a long stretch. I'm investigating the potential for using a company car, instead. I'm hoping that they'll go for that.

Sounds like a good opportunity in many ways and that you just need a little time to let it sink in before you pull the trigger. Best of luck as you mull this over!

Thanks for the words of wisdom! I don't have nearly as much time as I want to think about it...I need to say yay or nay tomorrow.
