1. What is the most adventurous food you've ever tried?
Escargot. Snails in garlic butter. I spent the rest of the night barfing.

2. What is the most adventurous food you'd be willing to try?
I think snails had to be it. So now I guess it would have to be some sort of exotic sushi

3. Would you have a problem eating dog meat and ( Read more... )

So how was our canine friend? If it were a culinary delight we would have been fighting people over the issue by now, so my guess as always been that its not a yummy dish.

Your assumption here is pretty much correct: not an outstanding delicacy by any means. I remember it as rather chewy, kind of stringy, with a venison-ish taste. Beef is much better by comparison, but beef was too expensive for most folks, so...

I never sought out dog meat, but was served it at least once when I didn't know what it was (and when I found out later, I was violently ill), and on a couple of other occasions when to refuse to eat what was offered would have been an unbelievably arrogant discourtesy. I was a guest in their country, after all.

I'd like to eat MUCH MORE veggies but many of them just end up squicking me. I'm a texture person.

This sort of surprised me. I'm not nuts for vegetables, but I like them much better when they haven't been cooked to death. Could your texture problem be that you're over-cooking and they're turning to mush? That's the way my mom always cooked them and my dad preferred them, because that's how it was done. But broccoli very lightly cooked so that it is still a bit resilient is worlds better than limp, mushy broccoli. Same goes for carrots and pretty much everything else!

You are absolutely right. Raw or nearly raw veggies always appeal to me ten times over those that are cooked. I won't even touch cooked peas or carrots or spinach.I really should make good my words and start eating more veggies...only not so cooked.

My mother used to take them out of the can or freezer and then boil the hell right out of them. I never ate green beans without bacon fat on them as I grew up. I had no clue about broccoli until I was 18 and a friend served it to me.

5. I'm a fan of veggies, mostly raw - they just taste good to me! But I don't believe in any either/or take on food; humans need protein and vitamins/minerals, there's a reason we're omnivores! (That said, we eat chicken most in terms of meat - boneless, skinless, free range and veggie fed usually - and I've found that eating more than a little steak at a time becomes just too much....)
