[Opp Plot 1]

Elizabeth stirred in bed, glancing at the sunlight sneaking through the curtained window and smiled to herself curling closer to James as he slept. He looked so peaceful and she so rarely saw it. For some reason she recalled she had been avoiding him of late and she could not think why that possibly was! He was her husband and she loved him dearly ( Read more... )

His sleep is entirely dreamless though fading as the light grows stronger, even if he is not ready to wake. A voice, small and light drifts through the heavy fog of sleep, slowly and gradually, but only such that the chattering whilst he's still for the most part asleep, is less recognisable and somewhat closer to disruptive as he is rather comfortable, willing sleep to overtake his senses again having let the time get away from him whilst reading in the main room the previous evening. Though the noise doesn't cease, and he is drawn further in to consciousness only to realise then that it is Elizabeth just next to him talking away, in rather an animated fashion. Her weight is warm and a familiar sort of comfort against him; something that has not been common as of late as they have found their own schedules for the time being. His narrowed, green gaze drifts to find a puzzling sight truly, so he sits up to look at her properly; rather sleep-mussed and clueless, brows furrowing lightly ( ... )

Elizabeth blushes, feeling a tad foolish she hadn’t meant to wake him of course. “I was talking to the baby of course,” she announced brightly as if it were perfectly obvious and reasonable. She kisses his cheek softly, “I’m sorry if I woke you I was trying to be quiet but it was just so exciting!” She blushes again and reaches for his hand sliding it carefully onto the swell of her stomach. “Can you feel?” she asked blinking innocently at him. “The baby is moving.” She could sit here all day feeling it but she knows she should get up and prepare James’ breakfast and then she has so much to do. How on earth has she allowed so much of her pregnancy to pass and she hasn’t sewn a single item of swaddling clothes- what will her poor little darling wear! Of course she is with child - near in confinement almost so there is only so much she can do! She would hate to wear herself out and be overtired. What if it upset the baby!

Talking to the baby. Of course. As if to suggest her behaviour is quite normal and that he ought to realise this, is only more puzzling as he stares at her, unable to comprehend what she is actually saying. Such responses from Elizabeth regarding her unborn offspring has never been so favourable or delighted. He says nothing, just stares at her rather vacantly, as if trying still to process what exactly is going on but there is not a thought in his mind. But Elizabeth continues on near chirpily, moving his hand so that it sits on her stomach - he almost looks wary about this even if she is controlling his hand, he wouldn't dare touch her lately ( ... )

She beams at him, pleased by his response and the fact that he can feel it. She would have felt dreadfully silly if it was something entirely internal and she was only imagining it could be felt without. How foolish he would have thought her. "It is amazing," she agrees her happiness clear on her face and she lies there enjoying the moment with him until the baby stills. Then she realises that she is being a dreadful layabout and pulls away. "I should get up," she demures and the instant she is out of bed she blushes deeply. What on earth was she thinking about with this night gown - it only comes to mid thigh and she tugs at it trying in vain to cover more of her legs.

And it's only worse when she investigates her clothing - hardly any of it will fit her changed figure and what will is clearly boys clothing. She bursts into noisy tears at the very idea. "I don't have anything to wear!" she sobs noisily

It ought not to be strange, though it is, to see Elizabeth so pleased now, smitten even with the idea of the child. Strange, but so nice, warmth seeming to flood him. He has wondered for some time now what he could do to help her, and seemingly it has occurred on it's own - though really she seems rather, overly bright, giddy especially for Elizabeth at her happiest, and though he is pleased too, it seems a little odd, though he doesn't want to question how her change of heart might have come about, lest it bothers her enough to spoil the moment. Rather an avid reader these past months, James is left to wonder if, not only the movement of the child within her but she is suddenly flooded with sentimentality due to hormones - apparently a mood can be settled rather irrationally by them. Not to say her happiness is false, more it is simply exaggerated ( ... )
