 Astrid was different from the others - in her town and her school - and she knew it.  She had too much spunk for a girl in 1952. She behaved in ways that were considered unacceptable in her small suburban town. When she punched the neighbor girl right in the face, for making fun of the boyish way that she walked, giving her a bloody nose she was
