A man in his 30s, with gazillions of facial tattoos and piercings, buying one tub of Country Crock spread, one box of Minute Rice, and one bottle of Gatorade. The total for these three items was nearly $8. He paid with his Oregon Trail Card (AKA food stamps). If only Dari-Mart Country Crock, Minute Rice, and Gatorade were as superior to the regular grocery's offerings as Dari-Mart milk, which is truly another story.

ugh. Ive seen this so many times in Eugene it makes me mad. I try not to judge people but it inevitably happens when I witness this sort of thing.

Yeah, that sort of thing chaps my ass, too, because that's the *exact* sort of dude who is always complaining about how broke he is, always scanging a meal (and never has one to offer), always talking about how "the man" makes it so that people can barely scrape by.

Meanwhile, I'm walking 2 miles to the grocery store (and back again) just so I don't have to add bus fare to the cost of my groceries. I qualify for food stamps, but I don't get them. Heck, I qualify for disability and I don't take that, either. And it's not even pride - it's that I am more capable than The State gives me credit for, but other people with lupus are not as fortunate. I don't want to part of what drains the system.
