Didn't the spice do something to their fertility? Or there was some Bene Gesserit (sp.?) thing or something. I remember there being discussions of that at some point in the novels, but I think I last read them in high school, so I may be wrong.

I'm re-reading the first book again right now, for the bazillionth time. Fuck I love Dune.
