So, our beloved Vger is on its last legs (wheels?). Our mechanic says we have another 5,000 or so miles before it is beyond repair. So we're starting our search for the next vehicle. You lovely folks are always so helpful with the experience and advice, I thought I would start our research here. Please tell me what you know about a sedan/ ( Read more... )

If you find something, do let me know.

We've owned a Sable/Taurus station wagon; I would not recommend them. The repair costs were ridiculous. We spent so much fixing that car that we could have bought it twice. Or bought something that would have run better.

I don't know what they're going for, or how big the back seat is, but I think if we were getting something new, I'd take a look at the Toyota Matrix wagons.

Well, I can tell you NOT to get a Subaru Outback wagon. Skiiiiiny back seats. You could fit two carseats but no way would an adult fit back there with them. Damned Subarus are so freaking small inside. (Ours is a 2003.)

I third Honda!
We had our 2000 CRV and never fixed a single thing, now my ex owns it and he has yet to do a single thing aside from oil changes.

You probably remember my great car debacle. We purchased a car and then when we realized it was too small, went straight for another CRV. I absolutely LOVE them. They fit carseats like a charm, with room in the middle (not a ton of room, but my mom sits there frequently without complaint) a HUGE wayback area for strollers, etc. We get decent gas mileage and it's not big enough to be obnoxious to drive or park, which is a plus!

Yeah, the Odyssey is high on our list. Our mechanic said to get a Honda or Toyota for the least maintenance expense.

after my first car broke down, I didn't know what car I wanted to drive with a limited budget to buy a new one. A close friend of mine suggested that I should try to test drive an Acura, and so I did. To cut the story short, I ended up buying one. I got a really great car plus finding its Acura parts is so easy. No hassle at all. Why don't you try driving one to experience it yourself. ;)

This doesn't meet your 5-year old or money want, but everything else is spot on and would work for you beautifully. My friends with the 2 kids got a 2008 Mazda5 and ADORE it. Read what he says about it. I can give you his email if you want; he'd be a good person to talk to since he knows all about cars and did a lot of research before deciding on the purchase.
