Sean found this E-40 video, which is partly filmed in the old 16th Street train station in West Oakland:

Sean went on a scouting mission to the 16th Street station when we were living in West Oakland in 2001 and took a bunch of pictures:

That place is gorgeous! Did anything ever come out of the development plans?

Hi, I found your LJ from a fellow friend. I want to go into this train station. Would you be interested?

Hi, I no longer live in the bay area. Have fun on your excursion, though!

This is one of the bigger West Oakland projects - passed last year by the city council with a lot of community support but I don't know really how it will turn out. I sent on Sean's comments to a group I am working with - who mostly are trying to get affordable housing into all these developments. There is a heritage group who are also working hard to preserve old buildings - for reasons you may not agree with. All these people fractionalized around issues.

I don't mean to bother you about this, I've been trying to figure out how to get into the station to take pictures, I'm a photographer too. How did your friend get in to the station?

He just walked in, it wasn't locked up or anything. Of course, this was 7 years ago, so I have no idea if you can do that now.

Thanks, I guess it's just locked up now since they are developing around the area. I'm trying to find out by contacting the city of Oakland so, hopefully I'll get somewhere with it.
