I am a fangirl and I would hope for the most part an intelligent and educated one. At least I can write in mostly complete sentences and have stopped living in the present tense quite so much

I agree with this. Two words. Wash. Serenity. The reaction was ridiculous, but it was the right thing to happen, damnit and it evoked an emotional response, and isn't that what art & TV are supposed to be about?
The backlash that happpened to TW writers over Ianto.
It was insane.
Yes there should be an emotional response, it should make you think and if it's really good, it will still make you think some days weeks and months later.
But why shouldn't the fans know better than the writing team? Or just as well?
I think the TW fandom and screaming about it all was mental, but I don't think I agree with what some people (not you!) have beens aying about it, which is basically, "the writers don't owe us anything - they can do what they like and too bad!" Well, yes, they can, but they do owe something to the fans because they wouldn't have the freedom to do the writing they like without viewing figures. Perhaps they should remember that and not (seemingly) deliberately fuck the fans off.
It seems to me a lot of fans who seem to be unable to grasp that sometimes the story demands a price to be paid. TW has always from ep 1 said anyone could apart from Jack can die.
There are those who are only into it for teh pretty boy kissing and that's fine but TW at least in it's current incarnation is much more than that.
I can be rational about TW and BSG but Heroes... I would like to give the creative team a spanking.
I have also felt somewhat uncomfortable with the BSG fandom since the ending. But, whatever. I enjoy the parts I like of the fandom, and skip the rest. Meh.
