My webhost has suddenly and inexplicably decided to start sucking (namely, I can no longer upload anything over 20 MB or so, which is quite the hazard for the modern-day vidder). This gives me a perfect opportunity to do what I've been wanting to do for almost a year now: switch to DreamHost.

I just switched to DH, and they were having a sale, so I went for the HUGE disk space/bandwidth deal for $20/month. I think their cheapo plan is $10/month and offers more than enough space for a vidder, though.

*However*, their customer service consists of a Wiki that is especially out of date for Mac users, so I'm thinking you might do better elsewhere. morgandawn just moved her stuff, and she's paying $6/month and gets real live humans on the phone when she calls. I recommend asking her about it.

Have you ever used their email (form mail) support? They always respond to me with useful and timely info. I'm really happy with DH.

Yay, thanks! I'm pretty sure the $10/month would be enough for my needs. Honestly, I'm not all that worried about less-than-adequate Mac support, since I also have a PC and can resort to using that if need be. But I really appreciate you letting me know about that particular flaw.

MD gave me the link to her hosting provider, and it looks pretty good so I'll definitely check it out.

Hey, quick question while I'm thinking about it - is it okay if one of us advertises GTS over at ds_noticeboard? Would you want to wait until after I get it uploaded to my site so your bandwidth doesn't get hammered?

I adore lunarpages. They have such great tutorials and, if your site is small-ish, they will move it for you. I know of several other vidders who use them.

I get 5GB space with 400GB bandwith for $6.95/month. They support Frontpage (if that is your thing) they offer free website stats. I even got a free domain name when I regsitered.

If you do decide to use them, e-mail so I can give you a referral code. I've been using them for 2 months. (PS. approach anyone who suggests a website an then offers a referral code with caution. Really.)

Oooh, thanks so much! I checked them out just now and their plans look awesome (and affordable, too). I especially like the part about free site transfer. Less work on my end is always a good thing. :)

My only concern right now is space; I'm trying to decide whether I'll ever need more than 5 GB (not for vids, obviously, but just in case I ever decide to share, um, larger files... *kof*). If not, lunarpages would certainly be the best way to go. I'll get a referral code from you if I settle on them. Many thanks for the info!
