So. Poll-time again.

Over the past year or so, I've become obsessed with collecting Buffy music. As in, songs that have been played on the show at one time or another throughout its seven-year run. (For example, "Full of Grace" by Sarah McLachlan, or "Out Of This World" by Bush, just to name a few.) buffymusic.net used to be a fantastic resource for episode music ( Read more... )

How about: do the the music site (I think it sounds interesting/informative) but keep the MP3 sharing low-pro, strictly need to know, don't ask don't tell...

Thanks! That seems to be what everyone is telling me. I'll probably end up making the MP3s available through my LJ.

And I like your icon! I am an INTP too. Who is that guy, BTW?

That's Leonard Shelby (as played by Guy Pearce), protagonist of the truly brilliant movie Memento. Thanks to communicator for pointing him out as a good (if not flattering) INTP avatar.

I have no idea, since I've spent most of my life outside the US - but thank you for the link to The Wayback Machine. Wow. So cool.

Oh yeah, the Wayback Machine kicks all kinds of ass. Very cool. Of course, if you've ever put anything embarrassing up on the web, it's now been preserved eternally for posterity, unfortunately. Um. Not that I would know anything about that. :)

Hi--I would go with a combination of the above. You sound really excited about the music site, and it sounds like it would be really cool and useful, so definately go for it. But being in the US, you might want to be careful putting mp3s in the open, and who knows how long it would be before you'd get shut down and no one would be able to use the site? But, then, you could also post some mp3s here on LJ or some other low profile way, so have a safer way to share those too.

Just my two cents. :)

Thanks! Yep, the public music site / private MP3 site appears to be the consensus. The MP3s will likely appear here on LJ, so you'll be able to access them. I appreciate your input!

I was actually mourning the loss of the buffy music site myself, and every once in a while I contemplate integrating some set of that into the dialogue database (once I'm, you know, done with the *dialogue*) but if you're going to do it first, that would save me a lot of trouble, so by all means! Oh, and btw, this site (Buffy | Angel) has a pretty good list to start with.

I'd be cautious on the mp3 front. I know one site whose name I can't remmber (Eternal something?) got away with it for a long time, 's where I got most of my buffy-relted mp3s, but the whole anti-music-sharing thing wasn't as big back then. Maybe if you had a "suscribe to my site update list" kinda thing, and once you're a subscriber, you can download? On the condition that you as a subscriber don't mention that you can get mp3s in any public forum, website, etc? Or you get banned? I know a few IRC channels that operate that way...

Thanks for those links! I'd seen that site before in my searches but forgot to bookmark it, so that helps. It might be a while before I actually get this thing up and running, though; if you still feel like adding any of the music stuff to the dialogue database, I certainly won't complain! (Also, I have been meaning to offer to help you with the BuffyDB, and keep forgetting to do so, so I am doing it now. I noticed you're currently working on Angel S3, which I have on DVD; if you need assistance with any of those eps, just let me know.)

The subscriber option is really interesting; I'll have to mull that over. The MP3s will likely be posted on my LJ for starters, but depending on the level of interest in the files and music site, the subscriber's list is a good option for expanding the availability. Thanks for the idea!

(Never heard of the Eternal site; I got lots of Buffy MP3s from a French ftp server, but it went down about a month ago. Phooey.)

yeah, that's a *way* long term project for me, and the way things have been around here lately, I'm guessing it'll quite literally be at least a year before I'd get around to it... and if you get to it first, and end up organizing it so that there are episode pages, I can always just link to yours from my episode pages, if you don't mind getting traffic that way as opposed to through your home page.

I'm not having official signups or anything fo r this season, but if you want to pick an ep I don't have yet, you're more than welcome to! Just let me know, and I'll send you a raw transcript that's already had a bunch of ( ... )
