Thank you for answering, sweetie! I've never been to Scotland, but it sounds like such a lovely place, I'd love to go! It's so great that you got to have such a nice holiday with your mum and dad not long before he died, it must have left lovely memories! And don't worry, I don't think anyone knows how to pronounce that super long town name! When I was in school, my Welsh teacher offered extra credit to anyone who could pronounce it properly - everyone failed!
Thanks for the info on your mum's name too! It's not a name I'd ever heard of before your mum so had no idea how to pronounce it, but suspected it was probably different to how I'd say it! (I am terrible at pronouncing things. Truly terrible!)
You are welcome honey; I love answering questions, and asking them too, learn more about people.
It is such a beautiful country, so full of history and wonderful nature and old buildings - I love that. My Dad enjoyed taking Mum and I for the vacations, it was a dream for him too to visit Scotland. I have some amazing memories from the vacations, along with pictures and the journals I wrote on the trips.
LOL, on the first trip, we had a Danish guide named Eva, and she could pronounce it ;) I was so impressed… However, it make me feel less stupid, that even true Welch people cannot pronounce it properly.
(Can I ask you a question? Do you speak Welch or English with your Mum and friends?)
It is probably not a name used much outside Scandinavia. Mums given name is Birgit, but was called Gitte from her earliest days. She was only Birgit when she was in trouble ;) She took the name when she got older being, Gitte Birgit Bjørn.
I was in Scotland with my parents when I was fifteen. I remember visiting a lot of castles and an equal number of distilleries, lol. But I agree with you, Edinburgh is a wonderful city.
